... AND THE GOOD TIMES ROLLED! ROCK PISSOURI FESTIVAL PHOTO REVIEW!

In the previous Issue I was writing about the "virtues" of an "original" rock festival event: "A venue somewhere closer to "Mother Nature" than a crowded city centre, a festival line-up consisting of Cypriot and international acts, a bunch of related festival activities,  plus a headliner act ready to "bring the house down" at the end of the night!". Well, it happened exactly as I wrote it!

We had a "f**king great time" at The Rock Pissouri festival: We experienced some excellent rock music, we enjoyed the cool summer Pissouri breeze, we saw lots of good friends, we drunk our beers, some of us made tattoos (!), and, to top it all, the magnificent 'Ride On' band "threw" a hell of a rock party at the end of the night to get us all dancing and headbanging!

The best way to describe such an event is to show the photos from it, isn't it? Rick Kendall was kind enough to allow us to use some excellent ones from the entire set of the festival, which can be found here. Enjoy the photo review, and, for those of you who did not make it this year, make sure you will be there with all of us at the 2011 event!

I am extremely proud of all the Cypriot bands that appeared in the festival. Their level of musicianship  was extremely high! I am not just saying that. For the last few years I have been continuously surprised by the musicians that this island is "breeding". The only thing that is missing is the extra "tightness" of live performances, that only comes after continuously "cutting your teeth" in events like this. So let's have a look at the bands that appeared:

Fresh from their successful appearance at the Schoolwave festival, they had the (always difficult) task of opening the festival and warming-up the crowd while the sun was still shining bright! They did their best and gained the appreciation of the fans who have just started to arrive!

One of the potential "next big things" in the Cyprus rock scene, the alternative rockers Wanderlust was the next band to hit the stage. Led by the beautiful voice and presence of Natalie, their music created a perfect fit for the sunset colors that were "dancing" in the background!

One thing amazed me about this particular band: What accomplished musicians! They have really "mastered" their brand of psychedelic rock and they presented it in an excellent way under the growing darkness of the Pissouri skyline!

No Off Switch are technically a Cypriot band, since their members live permanently in Cyprus. In reality though, they are an international rock band made up of accomplished experienced musicians! Partly led (for this night only) by the "mighty" Rick Mort, singer of the 'Ride On' group, they presented their original classic rock compositions, generating some great response from the audience! By the way, they are still looking for a permanent singer, so, if you are interested, have a word with Rick Kendall!

Well .. how can I describe this? These guys were simply stunning! Talk about a "tight" band! Talk about an experienced band! Talk about a band that is really providing entertainment! They had it all. At the end of their set an entire amphitheatre was dancing and headbanging, while the tireless "monster"  Rick Mort was still running and singing around the stairs creating havoc among his female fans! Crazy scenes, amazing atmosphere, in the spirit of Mr. Bon Scott and the Young Brothers! Come back again guys!

... you get the picture! But the experience was much better that what the photos could capture! So, we would like to sincerely thank the guys on the following photo (Peter & Rick), plus all other technical and support staff, for all their efforts in organizing the event under some extremely adverse circumstances! We really hope that they will do it again next year!

Ride On!
